- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice looks set to take the #1 spot at the box office again this wekend, but Bloomberg reports that the movie looks set to ultimately make Warner Bros. less money than Man of Steel did (that's once costs and revenue from ancillaries are factored in). One of the most expensive movies ever made, Batman v Superman looks set to make Warner Bros. a $278 million profit once they take account of everything from home video sales to TV and merchandise. That's less than Man of Steel's projected $300 million, and to be as successful as Marvel's movies - which tend to generate a profit of roughly 44% - Batman v Superman would need to gross $1.15 billion. That just goes to show that the movie is far from a flop, though analysts believe the studio are probably still disappointed.
"I’m sure that it’s a bit of a disappointment," says SNL Kagan analyst Wade Holden. "They were probably hoping for box-office numbers similar to ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ since ‘Batman v Superman’ had DC’s three most well-known comic book heroes together in the same movie” -- Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman." Matthew Harrigan, an analyst at Wunderlich Securities who recommends Time Warner stock, added: "They have to be pretty satisfied; they probably aren’t elated." To make matters worse, it sounds like Batman v Superman will definitely fall short of $1 billion worldwide. It's so far made $720.8 million in total, and that includes China. What do you think? - Deadline reveals that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is taking off in a big way in China. Dominating 75% of the market there, it's already earned $21.2 million, and when you take into account what the movie has so far made in countries like Mexico, Russia, and Germany, that now gives it a current international haul of $65 million. It's also worth noting that it launched at #1 in every single country it opened in yesterday. Now, early estimates in North America have risen from $150 million to the $165 million - $180 million range. It's thought that the Zack Snyder helmed release could sail past $80 million today, and it looks to continue breaking records, with the highest March opening of all-time pretty much a guarantee at this point. Moviegoers clearly don't care about reviews then, but it will be interesting to see how it fares over the next few weekend depending on which way word of mouth swings. Either way, the next couple of days are going to be very interesting for Batman v Superman...

- After remaining at #1 this weekend in North America with an impressive $31.5 million, Deadpool continues to do well overseas with a current haul of $324.1 million. That gives the movie a current worldwide cume of $609.7 million, an incredible amount which means it has grossed more than the likes of Iron Man, Ant-Man, Thor, and X-Men: The Last Stand. It's also closing in on the likes of Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World, so it's definitely a hit and easily one of the most profitable releases of 2016. How high will it go? That remains to be seen. Did you guys watch it again this weekend?

- After once again taking the #1 spot in North America this weekend with $55 million, Deadpool has now grossed upwards of $235 million domestically. That's obviously extremely impressive, but even more incredible is the fact that the R-Rated release is just a day or so away from hitting $500 million (it currently has a worldwide haul of $491.9 million).
Something which has to be helping Deadpool is the fact that it really isn't facing much in the way of competition right now, but make no mistake about it, that takes nothing away from this incredible record breaking haul. It's already outpacing many of the Marvel Studios movies and there's no telling just how high it will go right now. Analysts haven't weighed in on any final numbers just yet, but it wouldn't be too surprising to see it go as high as movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past at this rate. | Search in: 日本文化 (Nipponbunka) Subject: So I see the glory of One Punch Man hasn't really reached this place yet. Tue Jan 05, 2016 7:40 pm | We did have an OPM thread back when the anime adaptation was announced: http://www.g7gaming.net/t13002-one-punch-man-getting-an-anime-adaptation?highlight=One+Punch+manI've seen the entire series already (except for the several OVA's that have yet to be released), and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a fun series with great animation, hilarious characters, and very entertaining fight/action scenes. The series itself is basically a giant parody of battle/action shounen, and it makes fun of those cliche's and stereotypes that you see in series like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, etc. It's a highly entertaining ride, that doesn't take itself too seriously with it's hero classes and rankings and such. Saitama is funny as fuck, and frankly see's this "capeshit" thingy as a just a hobby for him. The real awesomeness is where the other heroes come in, as you'll end up liking them even more than Saitama. The only real negative is that sometimes the whole joke or concept of the "One-Punch" can get boring or repetitive at times. It also can get real serious at times, which becomes a trollfest because you know what's going to happen during the fight. Still, it's a very entertaining and very enjoyable seinen serious that is definitely worth checking out. OPM shit is being posted everywhere on Plebbit, halfchin, and other sites. The fanbase is HUGE over there, and there are threads everyday talking about the latest ONE Webcomic chapter or Yusuke Murata Chapter of its Manga. It even gets shitposted on other sites like Tumblr and it's even been spreading to Facebook, to the point where OPM is becoming huge with casuals. Hell, it was even voted as the #1 TV series of all-time (with at-least 5,000 votes) over on IMDB at some point, which is ridiculous but hilarious at the same time. The hype machine is huge, and the fanboys are real insane about this series. I recommend reading the the manga version before or after watching the anime version, since the artwork is fucking amazing for the Murata version, even though that version is far behind where the ONE Webcomic is. I would even argue that the manga does this series a lot more justice, and the fight scenes are even better in the manga than they were animated. Hopefully, we get a season 2 in the future, since Murata has been informing people on his twitter that he's been working like hell to draw and catch-up to where the ONE webcomic is with the series. IMO it's a solid 7.5-8/10 for the anime version, overall. Season 2 when Madhouse? Mumen Rider FTMFW!!! You can read the ONE Webcomic here: http://mangafox.me/manga/onepunch_man_one/ or the Yusuke Murata Manga version here: http://mangafox.me/manga/onepunch_man/ | Topic: Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens Reviews are coming in! | Archduke

Yes, I copied from halfchin because I was too lazy to write it myself. It's definitely a rehash of Episode IV. I have a bad feeling that Episode VIII and IX will be rehashes of V and VI, but I hope not. I want something new to happen in these movies' plot-lines, not just be the same damn thing we've seen before. Too much plot-convenience as well. I mean, Finn and Rey finding a Millenium Falcon that just happened to be in the Jakku junkyard at the right place at the right time? GTFO!!! Plus, in the fight scenes, some stuff happened just because it was the right place at the right time. This reminds me of the prequels, where literally all of them were filled with plot-convenience out-the-wazoo. I'm not saying that this constantly bugged me, but it did annoy the shit out of me in some areas of the film where I should be enjoying the badass action and fight scenes, instead. They briefly mentioned a rise of a new Republic during the 30 year timeskip since Episode 6. And that's it, no mention of it later on in the film. What, was it destroyed with Coruscant in the film by the "new Death Star"? Was that Coruscant destroyed? I really couldn't even tell. Oh, and the humor that J.J. Abrams threw into the film was kinda "meh". It's nowhere near the awful level of cringe that the MCU does to its films, as some parts where generally funny. But, it was kinda annoying since I don't remember any previous star wars film having this "humor" thrown into it, and it made the tone shift from "serious" to "light-hearted" too much where it felt annoying. Finally, Kylo Ren felt like a mediocre villain. He didn't get much development or a proper backstory to really explain his situation. They just said he was Han Solo and Leia's son, who reap* his father and turned against him to join this First Order for whatever reason. He just felt like a Darth Vader wannabe, honestly. He looked a douchebag as well. Him killing Han Solo was cool as hell, though. This Snoke guy really intrigues me. Hopefully, he's not just another Darth Sidious all over again.
Way overhyped overall, probably the most overhyped film to come out since Jurassic World. (Which is ironic since both films will probably be sitting atop the Box Office at #1 and #2 respectively when all is said and done. Oh and Jurassic World is shit, btw. I've re-watched it since it came out on Blu-ray, and I don't know why I even liked this film. It was fucking shit.) It's still a solid movie, but no masterpiece and definitely not the best star wars movie ever. | Topic: Top 5 PS4 Games of 2015 | Orc

- Over the past year, Marvel Studios has plucked the Inhumans from relative obscurity to give them prime placement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only are they getting their own feature film in 2019, they’re the subject of a major ongoing arc on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Essentially, they serve as a stand-in for the X-Men, since 20th Century Fox still holds the rights to Marvel’s mutant roster.
But replacing the X-Men with Inhumans in the movies and TV shows is one thing; now, that offscreen rivalry appears to be spilling over into the comics. Previews of the upcoming Extraordinary X-Men #1 tease a storyline in which the Inhumans’ expansion is literally killing the X-Men. More about the Inhumans killing X-Men after the jump. To rewind a bit, the Inhumans are an alien race whose genes are mixed in with some of Earth’s human population. In the comics, the recent release of a vapor called the Terrigen Mists has activated latent Inhuman powers in many people who had no idea of their alien heritage. (If you want a more in-depth summary of who the Inhumans are, check out our explainer.) But mutants exposed to the Terrigen Mists become ill, and Extraordinary X-Men #1 confirms the worst: Not only is the substance toxic to mutants, it sterilizes them as well. With a single plot device, Marvel Comics has the chance to kill off a bunch of mutants and prevent the creation of future mutants. See the preview pages via Blastr below:
To be sure, this is far from the first time the X-Men have been threatened with extinction in the comics. And there’s probably no threat of the X-Men being permanently wiped out; the characters are too popular for that. We’d also wager that if you asked Marvel whether the move had anything to do with movie rights, they’d blink innocently and feign indignation that you’d believe them capable of such spitefulness. However, it’s pretty clear Marvel is beefing up the Inhumans’ comic book presence to support their MCU appearances — and now their growth is coming at the expense of the X-Men, whose rights are held by Fox. Maybe movie rights issues aren’t the only reason this arc is happening, but it’s difficult not to suspect they’re part of it. Previously, Marvel Comics cancelled the Fantastic Four comic and dialed down Fantastic Four merchandising in the lead-up to Josh Trank’s new movie. (As it turned out, Trank’s film didn’t need any help failing, but that’s another story.) Of course they swore it had nothing to do with the Fox / Marvel rivalry, but fans have remained skeptical. And Marvel didn’t really help its own case, pulling cute little stunts like killing off Trank’s Fantastic Four cast in the comics. Nor is this the only time Marvel has tinkered with its comics to help its movies. In addition, there are rumors that the Terrigen Mists storyline will push the X-Men further off into the corners of the Marvel Comics universe, where they’ll have less contact with the characters whose movie rights are still owned by Marvel. We’ll have to wait and see if that part pans out. Based on everything else that’s happened so far, though, we wouldn’t put it past them.

- Fantastic Four has been a fantastic flop for Fox this weekend, and while the reviews and terrible word of mouth ensured it was always going to disappoint at the box office, the hits just keep on coming for the reboot. Hours before the movie was set to open on Thursday opening, director Josh Trank Tweeted: "A year ago, I had a fantastic version of this. And it would have received great reviews. You’ll probably never see. That’s reality though." No big deal, right? Well, box office analysts tell The Wrap that Trank's comments likely cost the movie as much as $10 million!
That's in North America alone, and had he not sent out that Tweet, it's possible that Fantastic Four would have debuted at #1 this weekend. However, the site adds that the filmmaker is unlikely to face any sort of legal ramifications for damaging the movie's takings (whether he'll get another job in Hollywood again is hard to say given how talking about behind the scenes issues like this are viewed by those in the business). "We stood behind Josh’s vision for the film as we stand behind all of our filmmakers at Fox," Chris Aronson, Fox's distribution chief told the trade today. It could be a long time until we get to know the future of the Fantastic Four franchise, but you have to believe the studio isn't happy! Did Trank's Tweet put you guys off from seeing the movie? - A lot of films have flopped in North America but later turned enough of a profit overseas to justify a sequel. That's not going to be the case with Fantastic Four! Following news of its dismal opening weekend, it turns out that it didn't fare any better internationally either as the reboot debuted with a dismal $34.1 million from 43 markets for a global haul of $60.3 million. This means that Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation was #1 worldwide for a second week with $65.5 million, and now a total of $265.3 million. With a horrendous C- CinemaScore, overwhelmingly negative reviews, and a director who has disowned the movie, Fantastic Four always had the odds stacked against it.
What does this mean for the sequel? Fox are saying nothing about that movie (which is dated for 2017), but Fox domestic distribution chief Chris Aronson had this to say about these numbers: "While we're disappointed, we remain committed to these characters and we have a lot to look forward to in our Marvel universe." It's probably far too soon for any sort of decision to have been made by Fox about the future of the franchise, but this is one of the all-time worst debuts for a Marvel based property. It's only "beaten" by Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance which launched with a measly $22.1 million, but was significantly cheaper to produce than Fantastic Four.

- According to Deadline, Fantastic Four is likely to take the #1 spot at the North American box office this weekend. With Shaun the Sheep its only real competition and Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation expected to drop around 50%, the Josh Trank helmed reboot is taking aim at a $40 million - $50 million debut. The trade adds that Fantastic Four is currently tracking better than Ant-Man across all demoes apart from older males and females. How that will translate when it comes to ticket sales is hard to say, and its success will likely depend on the first wave of reviews - which are expected online tomorrow - and that always all important word of mouth/CinemaScore.
Regardless, this news no doubt comes as something of a surprise. Of course, with tracking and early estimates so often being incorrect, it might be too soon at this point to declare Fantastic Four a hit! We'll have a better idea on Thursday evening when the reboot opens in North America anyway. How do you think the movie is going to end up performing this weekend? Sound off below... We’re not looking to re-tell stories here. What Robbie [Thompson] and Nick [Bradshaw] have put together is an exciting new take on Spider-Man at his arguably most iconic incarnation, and will feel fresh to new and old fans alike.” Class is in session as two of the hottest creators in comics take Peter back to school for a classic and iconic take on the Spider-Man mythology. We're seeing more diversity in our audience. We're seeing a younger crowd. We're seeing people really enthusiastic about comics. The first big chunk of the movie was a shitty Sci-Fi movie following Russel Crowe that was boring and unnecessary. The events get summarized briefly later in the movie, Russel Crowe barely needed to be in the movie, and it's seriously doubtful that a button-up scientist like him could beat General Zod in a fight. As much as James Jonah Jameson Junior is an essential character who's absence is felt, that's no reason to ignore the similar situation concerning Jimmy Olsen. Lois Lane's character was seriously fucked up. Gwen could have been more Gweny, but MoS' 'Lois' had nothing in common with the spelling-bee dropout reporter.
Rhino was fucked up, Max was fucked up, and the Goblin was fucked up. But Zod wasn't even a real character. In the first part, he exists only to make Russel Crowe act badass, and when he starts meeting Kal he exists only to force him into maturity. He may have some additional value as a generic, logic-defying villain, he isn't really worthwhile without Kal, and Kal's just a painful bore. Besides, Harry was fucked up, but his character was much more interesting than Snyder's Zod. TASM2's scenario isn't straight from the bible.
Spidey was Spidey. As much as their feeble attempt at 'Peter Parker' makes me cringe, Spidey himself is a worthwhile character. He is an annoying, cheesy shit, just as he should be. Anyone who reads comics could tell you Spidey's a scrub. The only way he can win fights despite being physically and mentally outmatched is by insulting his opponent until they make a mistake. Kal is just a boring dude who fights like Gypsy Danger.
I'd bring up the stupid babies BS, but the obsession with the Parkers is a bit more annoying than that.
Gwen Stacy fills her role, unlike Lois Lane. Gwen does what Gwen must do. It'd be great if they brought the Jackal later, but Hollywood plebeians wouldn't be able to follow. Lois is a damsel in distress, not the dangerously nosy, stubborn, punk reporter she should be.
You do realize Superman does that out of anger. Even the comics have show that when Superman is pissed he doesn't think clearly. Also Clark goes back and apologizes.
Considering many think that part is the best in the film you are in the minority. TASM2 is completely unnecessary throughout. Rushed plot points, rushed development of characters, rushed set ups, rushed, rushed, rushed. It's a worse Iron Man 2. Also Syder's Kryptonian's were a warrior culture.
There's little to no reason for Jimmy in a film that has no reporter Clark Kent. In TASM2 Peter is already working for J.J. Jameson. Spider-Man has been around for what? 1, 2 years?
I still don't get how you think Lois Lane's character was fucked up. She was still the "I don't give a fuck" kind of reported that she is in the damn comics.
At least Zod's character has a purpose. What the hell is the purpose of Rhino's? Nothing at all. Purpose of Electro? Nothing. Goblin? Nothing. None of TASM2 villains had any purpose. You can literally change any of them and there'd be no difference.
At least the bible has better character development than TASM2.
Yes, but he's not suppose to annoy the audience as well.
You can bring up the babies, I'll bring up the stupid Goblin disease, the Riddle.... erm I mean Electro's obssession, Gwen Stacey's Ghost dad haunting Peter because he's screwing Gwen, unneeded Rhino, I can keep going.
Gwen was exactly the same character Lois was. Only difference was Gwen dies. Mecha may be an idiot who reads all his comics on Google images, but at least he bothers reading them. The entire movie is Kal being pissed, and even when he isn't he doesn't think straight. If you wanna bring up his anger, then why does he only bother to save Lois twice, a random chopper pilot, and a family of four when he could easily help others? Snyder's Kal is more like an Incredible Hulk focused solely on punching the bad guys in the face rather than actually protecting the people. TASM2 was rushed, but MoS literally tried to crop three movies into one. They weren't even all the same genre. The Daily Planet was there. They included a weak, boring side character like Jenny, they could have easily placed Jimmy instead of her. Having at least one personable character in the movie would have been nice. Not having JJJJ is pretty disappointing, but only one actor can play him as well as he was played in Raimi's trilogy, and SONY's too stubborn to have anything similar to his. MoS's Lois is exactly a damsel in distress. She just gets in trouble all the time because the bad guys are stronger. Lois gets in trouble because she's all up in the villains' shit, and exposes them. She's an ace reporter, not a fragile doll with a camera. The purpose of the villains is pretty obvious. Spidey is a kid, he watched his uncle die, he watched his girlfriend die, constantly pushes away the woman he loves to protect her, works his ass off to pay for his aunt's medical bills, juggles school, work, and being a superhero, is constantly outmatched by villains who just want to kill him. They may have screwed up all three villains, but at least they're doing something right, and trying to bring the true despair of the character, instead of just fucking everything up. Goblin actually had his own personality, unlike MoS villains. Max's obsession was a bit too much, and too cringeworthy, but the villains' obsession with Spidey should be equivalent to something you'd expect from Lex or The Joker. Captain Stacey was a part of Spidey's imagination. Didn't bother replying to unintelligent remarks. | | |
