I'm just so excited to see how it compares to 70mm Film projection. If it's as good as people say, it could be the greatest thing to happen to movie theaters in years.

Why do we need 2K projectors when movie theaters has been able to do higher resolution than that for decades?

Because 2k projectors keep movie theaters alive. The reason for the fast change to digital projection is because movie theaters were shutting down due to higher increase in costs of Film prints and lower audience attendance. 2k projectors make sure you can have more theaters that would've been dead without it.

Because 4k projectors still cost more than 2k. There are a lot of smaller theaters that can't replace their 2k projectors with 4k ones and keep their business going when less and less people go to their theaters (and movie theaters in general). 2k projections make sure that certain theaters can operate their business without going bankrupt.

@RamboOnRedBull Well those smaller theaters might have to upgrade soon, because we're getting closer to having higher resolution right at home. =/

Well, I don't know about laser projectors, but one of my local AMC theaters is getting the "Prime" upgrade.

I heard about Prime. Sounds really cool, but it might be fucking expensive to get into one. Not sure when my local theater is going to have though?

Yeah, I know what they look like. I just didn't know the technical stuff. Looks like I'll be seeing Star Wars, BvS, CW, etc. in both IMAX and Prime.
