NextBox will require internet connection to start games

Two Kotaku sources have added more credence to the rumor that the next Xbox, expected to battle the PlayStation 4 in late 2013 or early 2014, will be an always-online system, though it will be able to tolerate dropped connections.

Unless something has changed recently," one of the sources told us over email, "Durango consumer units must have an active internet connection to be used."

"If there isn't a connection, no games or apps can be started," the source continued. "If the connection is interrupted then after a period of time--currently three minutes, if I remember correctly--the game/app is suspended and the network troubleshooter started."

That would just make single player hell if your connection fails time to time. That's if you have any at all...

Konami does it with all of their latest arcade machines in Japan which is incredibly fucking retarded. Makes imports even far more difficult unless you hook them up to a custom unofficial server.

I know a lot of people don't want this to be true and are sure that's it isn't but a lot of rumors about the PS4 ended up to be true... except the anti used games rumor but only because they based that off filed patents. Nextbox rumors are based off of dev kits. Yeah it's a horrible fucking idea that many critics are going to slam but Microsoft will go with it anyway just like they went with Windows 8. lol

This rumor has been reported so many times that it has to be true. Like most video game rumors out there. Thing is, Microsoft might have removed this "always-on" thing the very last minute, and pretend that it never happened. The fact that they would even consider this just shows how arrogant they're becoming. Just like how Sony was back in 2006 with the PS3.

I don't believe it. They're one of the few major game publishers that hasn't made an online pass for their games so why would they introduce this? You know what they say if it sounds like bullshit it probably is bullshit.

We won't know for certain until it is actually confirmed and announced.

However based on how many rumors have in fact been reported by some credible sources too aswell as the fact that the creative director tried to defend it does create reliable evidence that Microsoft will add it.

But on the other hand Microsoft has seen the massive backlash and consequences always online can have and how the gaming industry despises it and if Microsoft really is the marketing giant as it is now they should know that they are shooting themself in the foot with this. Unless MS is retarded they would do this.

But again let's wait until it is actually announced and then we can be for sure.

But that's the thing, IF the rumors are true, Microsoft probably won't even mention it during announcement. They'll probably show off all the best features and not even bring up anything that could turn off the consumers, just so you can go out and buy one.
