PostSubject: New build time? New build time!   New build time? New build time! I_icon_minitimeMon Jul 01, 2013 7:37 pm

So, since I built my last computer about 5 years ago, I figured it was upgrade time. I went with:
Proc: Intel i7 4770K 3.5Ghz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116901
GPU: Evga GTX 760 Superclocked http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130932
Mobo: Asus Z87-Pro http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131979
Memory: GSkill 16GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231568
Case: Rosewill Blackhawk http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147107
PSU: Rosewill 750W Modular http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182264
Disc: LG BluRay Player/DVD burner http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136252
Storage: Three WD Black 1TB drives http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533
OS: Windows 8 64-bit

Comparing prices and combos between Newegg and Amazon, I got it all for $1500 which was about $200 under my budget. I almost used the extra money for a GTX 770, but instead I'll just upgrade my GPU in 2-3 years like I did with my previous build. I've always found the GTX *60's to have some of the best performance vs price, especially with the Superclocked editions.

Anyways, performance wise so far, this shit is fast and runs cool.

oOoOOOoOOoOOOOoOOooOO

4th generation i7 with a new MB chipset as well. looks like a top notch build.

and you're right on the 60tis. best power to price ratio for Nvidia cards.

what are you keeping your rig cool with? i currently don't even turn mine on, its too fucking hot in socal. triple digits all month. i might go with a water cooled setup for my next build.

The Intel stock coolers are really effective if you don't overclock, which I'm not going to bother to do since it's already base 3.5GHz.  Other than that, just air cooling with a house A/C I keep at 70-73. The case came with five fans thou, which is nice.

For a start if you're not going to overclock you don't need a 750w PSU, I'd go with a 600 unless you plan to SLI in the future. The new GPU/CPUs are really efficient now, go with a 600 to save some monies. Also, 16gb of RAM is a little much, do you play do some video encoding or heavy video rendering for work ? 8gb is more than enough for gaming and web surfing,

I bought the higher PSU because it wasn't much more than the lower version and I wanted the flexibility to throw a beefier GPU or OC in the future, and I got 16 gigs of ram because fuck it why not. Now I can mess around with Hyper-V if I want to, or do whatever.

And it's 42 fans, Shig.
