- PS4 is said to be revealed at Sony’s PlayStation Meeting event on February 20th, but Microsoft exec Jon Grimes has stated that the majority of consumers “won’t know” what the reveal is about, claiming that it won’t attract much appeal from the mass demographic.
Speaking with MCV, Grimes said, that the upcoming Sony event will be “important for the industry”, but added, “Whatever gets announced on February 20, the majority of UK consumers won’t know.”
He continued, “Our job is not to get lost in the industry chatter, but to ensure that the consumers going into stores, going online, still experience Xbox. The announcement is important for the industry, but it is also important to remember who is buying right now.”
Exerting caution over looking too far into the future – and forgetting about current consumers as a result – Grimes added, “What has got us to where we are today is not going to be what gets us through the next ten years. Now we’ve also got to start from scratch when thinking about the future. Driving creativity, whether around marketing, retail or new business models, is key for us.”
What do you think about the above? Should platform holders like Sony and Microsoft appeal to the mass market or should they focus on the core first?
Yesterday one of the Xbox co-founders Nat Brown slammed Microsoft for forgetting about the core, calling the last five years of the brand “painful” to watch. See his damning statement on the matter here. Source: VG247

| Desperate title searching for attention... They never said that the "majority doesn't care" about the system, but that the majority of people won't know about the announcement. It's right here in the middle of it: - Quote :

| They invited a shit tonne of media, Wall Street Journal, other mainstream outlets and of course the majority of the gaming media. Sony will make sure the Eire, UK & the rest of Europe will know about this.
The majority don't know about the likes of E3, GDC etc, but since Sony have control they'll make sure this is a huge event. The Hammersmith Ballroom, not only is well renowned around the world, it holds over 2000 people.
This is going to be big, trust me. | |

| I just hope they announce/show some next-gen launch titles at the event. That's really all I care about: Games....and LOTS of them. | |
