| This is basically just a more up-to-date version of the model we saw before. It still looks pretty shit though. - Quote :
- A new design for Valve's Steam Controller has been revealed. It's not that different from the version we saw in July, though it does feature some form of a D-pad on top of or alongside the left track pad.
The image above was pulled from files within the latest Steam Client Beta update, revealed by Valvetime. The purpose of the new D-pad is unknown, but Valvetime suggests it might tweak traditional D-pad functionality and allow for more directional input than the regular four points of motion.
We have reached out to Valve for comment on the leaked Steam Controller design.
Steam Controllers were at one time believed to go on sale by the end of 2014, but it appears that's not going to happen. So when might we get our next official look at the Steam Controller?
Valve's Doug Lombardi told Techradar in November that the company isn't attending the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next month, opting to show its latest developments at the 2015 Game Developers Conference in March 2015. http://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-steam-controller-design-leaks/1100-6424324/ They're still going with the stupid trackpad system, probably think it makes the controller more modern, but really it just makes it less reliable, more affected by age, and uncomfortable. There's a reason the traditional controller has survived this long, real-buttons are satisfying, unlike touchpads. If I wanted to use a touchpad on PC, I'd use my laptops.

| Yeah, you know it's gonna be bad when they're trying to simulate real buttons and joysticks on a single screen. Honestly, the PSPGo could have been a great gaming mobile, the design was perfect for that. But at least phones have an excuse, Valve's just ting to seem trendy and unique, give PC gaymers something they can delude themselves into thinking is superior. | |

My question as well. The second one is replace by the innovative trackpad. Finally a controller that's as exciting as gaming on a laptop with no mouse.

You're right, god knows why they replaced the analogs with those touchy things. LOL I can imagine it now, after years of bitching about how KB&M trumps controllers they'll be like "this is a master race controller coz it's simulating a mouse feeling with the touchpad thingy". To which my response will be; 1. How long before your thumbs cramp up? 2. How many moves are you unable to perform on fighting games? 3. How does it feel to have worse precision than a PSPGo analog stick would give you?
