Apparently alot. GT5 sold almost as well as Halo Reach despite the fact that the FPS genre dominates this generation.
Im talking about a lasting appeal. I mean when people talk about xbox they think about halo. When people talk about nintendo people think about mario. Gran turismo just sells well but doesn't lift the playstation brand in any kind of way.

Toxic, you do realize that Halo is one of the most unpopular games outside of USA, right? GT6 Would make a great killer app for a launch title alongside other games like a God of War 4, heck, even a 3rd dimensional LBP game would make more rounds than a Halo 5 would worldwide.
Halo is massively popular in almost all gaming regions besides japan. And besides same can be said with gran turismo since that game only seems to be popular in europe. Hell halo would dominate god of war 4, and littlebigplanet, infamous 3 all three COMBINED worldwide. Are you blind? Or just stupid? Dude, i fucking LIVE in Europe. I can tell you right now.....in Europe......people don't seem know what Halo is. In Japan, well, you already know Halo ain't tentacle porn down there neither, so You do realize Halo does not sell that good outside of USA, right? The highest a Halo game has sold in Europe is 3 Million, which is nothing compared to USA. Which is sad, 'cuz USA is a COUNTRY while Europe is a CONTINENT. Gran Turismo, i'm sorry to say, is more well known than Halo is WORLDWIDE. Funny how you say GT is only known in Europe, when, it sells more in USA....

You're not talking about killer apps then, you're talking about iconic characters, which you're right, Sony does not have. They don't have one specific character associated with their brand, but Gran Turismo most definitely is a killer app for them.

| Sony has more iconic characters than MS. Kratos and Ratchet come to mind pretty fast. And hell people tend to associate Snake with the PS brand more than anything....With MS only Master Chief and maybe Marcus Fenix come to mind. While Sony has Kratos, Ratchet, Sly, Jak, Nathan Drake, etc. | |

Right, and because Sony has so many characters, they don't have one that represents the console whereas Microsoft really only has Master Chief.

That's an interesting thought but how would it work exactly? They can't have the camera built in to the console because I assume that the console would be a lot larger than what the Kinect currently is and I can't imagine them forcing you to put the console on top of or in front of your TV the way Kinect is. I think that they bundle Kinect with every XBOX but it's still a separate piece of hardware. I agree. Having Kinect built in wouldn't make sense. I do think it will be bundled with every system though.

Again. Those are minor mascots. Kratos, rachet, sly and jak are nowere near iconic status like master chief and mario. |

| Sony doesn't need one DEFINATIVE mascot. The PS2 never really had one, and it dominated in sales. Besides, Halo is just about to get milked if they make a new trilogy. Mario is the most milked franchise in history. | |

True the ps1 and ps2 didn't need a mascot since they brough a whole new appeal in gaming neither nintendo nor sega delivered. But now that the 360 took a large amount of the ps2 fanbase twith the same approach a definative mascot would be a good thing for sony to make them stand out. |

I think that they bundle Kinect with every XBOX but it's still a separate piece of hardware. The tech inside Kinect is actually a lot smaller then you think. Also Kinect is already forcing you to make more space in your living room and stuff. It's no different. Just get a TV Stand that works better for motion gaming is all.

The aproach to a mature audience was the reason sony was so popular i agree with that. But now sony seems to have massive competition when it comes to the mature audience which proves that sony cannot rely anymore on the playstation brand itself. I mean look at the difference between the ps1 and ps3. The ps1 had completly no competition at all even tho the N64 was a great console. Because they tried out a whole new thing so they didn't need a mascot in the first place. With the ps3 however the 360 seem to have taken the same approach and actually got advantage due to gears of war and halo 3 mainly because of their easy recognizable cultures within the games. So the difference is that the ps1 had no competition. But after the competition between the 360 and ps3 the 360 still stood strong even if playstation is a much more known brand last gen. And now with the next generation coming up. Microsoft got a new halo trilogy. And nintendo got mario. Which gives them an advantage since they both have a bigger fanbase due to their iconic characters. Sony only has its playstation brand to back themself up. |

But this is more of a quality issue then a quantity issue. I mean sony has a really huge amount of exclusives this year like infamous 2, uncharted 3, resistance 3, killzone 3, ect. Yet more people are looking more forward to see halo 4. Just like the start of this gen. People were waiting for nintendo to release new mario while others were waiting to see halo 3. But sony didn't really had anything to look forward for you on the ps3 know what im saying? I mean people were waiting for MGS4 but then again the metal gear series seem to be going multiplat. |
