The Xbox One Struggles Ever More to Sell in Japan

The Xbox One Struggles Ever More to Sell in Japan Microsoft-xbox-one-2015-01-22

Quote :
According to Game Kana, Microsoft has managed to sell a total of 44,767 units of the Xbox One gaming console in Japan over the course of 20 weeks.

This is in comparison to Nintendo’s Wii U, which has sold 2,191,908 units in 111 weeks, and Sony’s Playstation 4, which has managed 1,047,481 since its launch 48 weeks ago.

Assuming a linear progression, by their 20th weeks, Sony would have sold 436,450 units of their Playstation 4 console, while Nintendo would have sold 394,938 units of the Wii U. That means the Xbox One is performing about a tenth as well as Sony is in Japan.

As Game Kana points out, the only real bump in sales happened during the week that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare launched, when 2,245 units of the console were sold. The console otherwise shows a steady decline, managing to sell only 300 units this past week.

With these sales figures, it makes sense that Microsoft has a deal with 5pb. for three Xbox One-exclusive titles in the country. But how much effect can Chaos;Child, Mystereet F: The Detectives’ Curtain Call, and Psycho-Pass have on the general trend?

[Editor’s note: Chaos;Child released in December, to very poor sales. It sold under 2000 copies in its first week, which still made it the highest-selling Xbox One title that week.]

Microsoft should just give up.
