Vegeta STRONGER than Goku?

Reflecting on his battle with Goku Bills says "the Super Saiyan God was not that strong". He and Whis, who is even more powerful than Bills, discuss the immeasurable latent power of the two Saiyans. Bills then states that Vegeta might soon actually become a fearsome foe. Goku was chosen to achieve Super Saiyan God after pleading with Bills. Goku, however, did not quite like Super Saiyan God. "Goku wasn't very comfortable with the form and is content at working towards being able to fight at a level not too far removed from Super Saiyan God all on his own." Upon instructions from Shenron, Goku is able to transform to Super Saiyan God with the help of other Saiyans. He appears similar to that of his base form, red eyes, slightly thinner, and he has a flame-like aura. Upon feeling the God-like levels of power, Goku expresses disappointment, accepting he never knew there was a realm of power like this and doubted he could achieve the level on his own. After Goku and Bills battle, Vegeta angrily informs Goku that next time he will be the one who gets to become the Super Saiyan God. Goku promises to cooperate."

Well what's the point if the series is dead aside from a few movies here and there.

Vegeta was always more powerful but his stubbornness and goku's experience on earth gave goku the upper hand.
