- Today Sony Computer Entertainment Japan completed the unveiling of Freedom Wars (that was previously partially detailed here and here), in development at Sony Japan Studio exclusively for the PS Vita.
We learn that in the world of Freedom Wars, players play the role of one of 100 million prisoners labeled as criminals. Guilty people aren’t found and judged just thanks to an astronomical number of surveillance cameras, but also thanks to the actions of a sort of minions of a superior power wearing a special visor. Civilians are afraid of them (for obvious reasons) and step out of their way as they patrol the cities. The main enemies, named “Abductors” have the form of a dragon, and various types of them exist. There are also artificially developed Abductors created in the Panopticon cities, that are used by humans in the war against their mysterious enemies. One of the main weapons used against the Abductors is the “Thorn”, that is wrapped around the left arm of the criminals. They can be extended and retracted, and moved to different locations. There are different kinds of Thorns and their abilities can change as they grow with character progression. The Abductors can be completely destroyed only by using weapons at short range or by a special attack performed with the Thorn to break their core. The purpose of the Abductors seems to be to kidnap humans. They can be released by defeating the enemy that captured them. The game involves releasing civilians like technicians working to repair the Panopticons (they are often sent outside to keep the advanced tech used to build the cities well maintained) , Accessories that have been lost in battle by other criminals, or players that have fallen prey to their enemies during failed missions. Players helping each other out will be an important part of the game. I don’t know about you, but personally I’m finding this game more and more interesting as new details are unveiled. Not only it looks great, but it sounds very unique and peculiar in terms of gameplay. Especially the idea of rescuing other players sounds very intriguing. Sony Japan Studio got us used to high quality in their work, and I have a feeling that this one won’t be an exception. http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/05/30/ps-vita-exclusive-freedom-wars-fully-unveiled-with-new-screenshots-and-info/ More screenshots in the link. | |
