Catastrophic Computer Crash Need Urgent Help.

So using my laptop yesterday and all of a sudden an utter shitload of pop ups came up on screen saying "disc drive c is unreadable" and a bunch of other things...and i mean dozens of pop ups. Next thing i know my entire desktop icons and shortcuts etc are gone and i cannot access anything on my HDD.

Googled the symptoms and turns out ive got a Trojan virus or malware or something, tried following a guide on youtube that links to a site called www.trojan-killer.net to download a program that will scan your whole computer then remove the viruses so you can then download another program that will get all your files visible again (the guide stressed that your files havent been wiped they are just invisible or something).

Anyway i downloaded the program and begun scanning which took a fucking age by the way...only for it to say "Buy a keygen to remove infected files" or something to that effect, of course i was not happy that this little detail was left out of the guide.

So basically what im asking is does anyone know WTF is wrong and can they give me a no bullshit guide to fix it, i dont want fucking pages of jargon or links to shit that will scan my files just to ask for fucking payment before it can fix it.

I will try to give any more info.

I would try using MalwareBytes. The free version is perfectly adequate.
