| NEW REVIEWS!SCAR SYMMETRY THE UNSEEN EMPIRE I can almost hear the screams of angered fans. "Why the hell do they need two singers now?!", "They're shit now that Christian has left!". To be perfectly honest, I don't think anyone had very high hopes for Scar Symmetry's latest album, yet somehow here we all are, impressed and hungry for more. Scar Symmetry are very much on the same track as the previous album, so they still have a slightly industrial feel but that has always been present in their music even before Christian Alvestam's departure. The most glaring difference is the songwriting quality has been turned up a notch. There are more hooks and memorable melodies than ever before. Guitar solos are still wacky and in your face. The combination of brutal growls and floaty clean vocals are still here and done well. The Unseen Empire is nothing short of an excellent album and although we all miss Alvestam, I have enough reason to believe Scar Symmetry don't need him. 8.8SEPTICFLESH THE GREAT MASS How many people does it take to make an album? 5? 6? How about over 100? After long days of hard work of composing all the different orchestral arrangements, the guitarist passed on the sheet music to none other than the Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague. The album is very much a death metal album but the addition of a 130 piece orchestra gives the album a more soundtrack-esque and epic feel. You needn't worry, you can still headbang till your brains turn to mush. If anything, the orchestral aspects compliment the metal aspects. Honestly, the album has to be heard to be believed and so do just that, because it is a great, brutal album. 8.4/10OMNIUM GATHERUM NEW WORLD SHADOWS Omnium Gatherum are a band with creativity, which is expressed in their latest album, New World Shadows but at times it seems this creativity is cramped by excessive use of synth. The album is one that presents raw emotion by the gut tightening growled vocals and the sweet guitar melodies and harmonies. Perhaps the biggest complaint of the album are the way when the synth takes the front seat, the guitarists resort to simple power chord chugging, which sadly gives it a more industrial, nu-metal feel. There is a subtle use of clean vocals and the lead guitar is generally very soulful. Overall the album creates an incredible atmosphere and fans of modern melodic death metal should definitely give it a listen. 8/10IN FLAMES SOUNDS OF A PLAYGROUND FADING Playground takes In Flames once more into a new musical direction but for the first time in a decade they feel like they are back on track. The album has not got the memorability nor appeal of their old albums but the music seems to have more purpose and presence than their last albums. It sounds fairy industrial and there is no looking past that but the songwriting is cohesive and packs a punch. It was a 4.5/5 but in the great scheme of things I will have to reduce its score a bit. 7/10DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT DECONSTRUCTION Decontruction is as incomparable as any other avant-garde, progressive metal album. It is filled to the brim with very bizarre songs that are more comparable to Crash Bandicoot soundtracks than anything else. The use of a large choir only adds to this colossal compilation of weirdness. For the most part, the album succeeds in what it sets out to do. It is crass, crude and even rather hilarious, but at the same time, it is a niche album that will only appeal to a tiny demographic. 5/10DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT GHOST Typical prog artists. Put out an album of one end of the spectrum then release another by its side, of the entirely opposite end. That is what Devin has done here. Along with the release of the utter madhouse of music that is 'Deconstruction', he has released this record and boy, what a contrast. Every song on the album has a floaty feeling, an extremely soft, ghostly presence. The inclusion of instruments of the wind family builds upon these vibes and create a very unique flavour and texture that cannot be described. The only issues I would have with the album are its lack of progression (funnily enough) and the number of cliched melodies. 8/10OBSCURA OMNIVIUM It is albums like this that I can never quite put my finger on. I simply cannot comprehend what the musicians were aiming for. Nonetheless, what Omnivium will do is blow your fucking mind. Take this as an example: Speedy, technical melodies of exotic scales come flying at you from every direction, your ears are being penetrated by piercing death growls and suddenly, before you know it, haunting clean vocals flow into the scene, gentle acoustic licks skim across the surface like pebbles on water. You may love or hate this album but one can not deny the musicians talent and it is worth listening to just to admire some very intelligent instrument work. 8.5/10I WILL ADD MORE LATER JUST RELISTENING TO SOME OF THESE ALBUMS SO I CAN FORM A SOLID OPINION. Upcoming reviews: Opeth: Heritage Black Dahlia Murder: Ritual Tom Waits: Bad As Me Insomnium: One for Sorrow Omnium Gatherum: New World ShadowsSepticFlesh: The Great MassChildren of Bodom: Relentless Reckless Forever Scar Symmetry: The Unseen Empire

Um . . . actually, no. Reviewing albums is pretty normal. They actually have publications for that kind of stuff. Pretty sure there are no "character review" magazines. You lose.

And I said that the name "Wolfie Reviews" is more retarded than my reviews. You have to start watching stuff more important besides your gay furry porn. Lol. And I admit, my reviews are more retarded than his. You lose TROLOLOLOLOLOL

Your gay furry porn accusation is unfounded, whereas my accusations of you liking little girls is completely founded by your obsession with those weird Japanese shmups. "Wolfie Reviews" vs my reviews that are trying to be serious. IDK how you can find them retarded. I'm trying to be serious and stuff. The name here sounds soo stupid, its laughable. No offense to lykos. :) Besides, why the fuck are you even arguing about why I think the name sounds more retarded than my review? I know, I was like "Thats a shitty opinion" but I was kidding. I didnt enjoy Inception that much. 2. Girls? I know you're talking about teenage girls and shit. One problem. I'm like the same age. 3. Shmups? Yea, this makes me love those girls that are the same age as me. *Inserts image from #2* 4. Yea, I admitted that my reviews are more stupid than Lyko's but thats not the point about what I was saying in my original post. Like I said, you need to look more closely at posts more often. | Holy crap TRF and Arcana XD This is the first time I've returned to this thread and I see your argument spewed across it. But that's okay, I found it funny. Especially paedo arcana accusing you of being a gay furry LOOOOOL And I don't see whats wrong with wolfie reviews :'( - Universe wrote:

I was tempted to give it more but it is quite a challenging album to listen to for people who aren't into this kind of music and I wanted to give a fair review for the average music fan, not simply to death metal fans. Also I wouldn't say it's a 10/10 album. I do think some songs, like Ocean Gateways had too much repetition. Still an incredible album - DukeNukem34 wrote:
