DEADPOOL Breaks Records As It Takes Aim At Massive $130 Million Weekend Lol_6410

February may just be the new July thanks to Deadpool as the R-Rated capeshit movie is performing just as well as any huge 20th Century Fox or Marvel Studios' blockbuster. After a record setting $47.5 million on Friday, the Tim Miller helmed release looks set to take $117 million over three days and a total of $130 million for the long Valentine's Day/Presidents Day weekend. That places it among the top 10 comic book movie openings and is the biggets debut in history for an R-Rated film.

DEADPOOL Spoiler-Free Review; "The Merc With The Mouth Finally Gets The Movie He Deserves"

Early estimates pointed to Deadpool making $70 million if it was lucky, and it was only last night that analysts started predicting a total of $90 million. It's now far exceeded that, leaving studio execs who pegged it as a guaranteed box office flop red faced. To put these numbers into context for you, Deadpool has beaten the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy ($94.3 million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million), so this is a massive victory for Ryan Reynolds after a string of flops like Green Lantern and R.I.P.D.

Of course, the actor and movie deserve every bit of its success, and hopefully we'll get a message from Deadpool any day now which makes the sequel 100% official.

DEADPOOL Obliterates Competition With $135M Opening ($260M WW); On Pace For $150M+ Holiday

Quote :
Remember those conservative $55-65 million opening weekend estimates? Well, a week ago, those numbers would've been more than satisfactory for the low-budgeted Deadpool, but in typical Deadpool fashion, the Merc decided that number just wasn't enough.

Over the three-day Valentine's Day weekend, the Tim Miller-directed capeshit feature has grossed a record-shattering $135 million and is currently on-pace for an absolutely colossal $150 million over the four-day Presidents Day weekend. With those numbers, Deadpool now holds the record for biggest February opening ever, destroying the record set by Fifty Shades Of Grey last year, and also holds the record for biggest opening for an R-Rated film ever, overtaking the record set by The Matrix Reloaded in 2003.

Overseas,  Deadpool has grossed over $125 million, which brings its worldwide total to over $260 million, which is more than four times its budget of $58 million.

Deadpool's magnum-sized debut is now the seventh largest opening for a capeshit movie in history (tenth if you adjust for inflation), surpassing the likes of Spider-Man ($114.8M), Iron Man 2 ($128.1M), Guardians Of The Galaxy ($94.3M), Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95.0M), Man Of Steel ($116.6M), and every single X-Men film (X-Men 3 - $102.8M; DOFP - $90.8M) ever. This is a well-earned victory for 20th Century Fox, the film's cast and crew, writers, and especially for the film's star - Ryan Reynolds, who after nearly a decade was finally able to see his dream realized on the big screen and in glorious fashion, no less.

Also, in case you were wondering, Deadpool is Reynolds' biggest opener ever and will become his highest grossing film ever by the end of the week, if not sooner. Additionally, with the international numbers now in, the film has already out-grossed the entire box office runs of Reynolds' other comic book adaptations - Green Lantern and R.I.P.D. On a different note, Deadpool has also already out-performed the disastrous run of Josh Trank's ill-fated Fantastic Four.

As for the other new releases, How To Be Single and Zoolander 2, they finished a distant third ($18.75M) and fourth ($15.65M), respectively. Kung Fu Panda 3, in its third weekend, finished second with approximately $19.7 million for the three-day weekend, and an estimated $26 million for four days, bringing its worldwide sum to over $225 million.

So, what do you guys think? Will X-Men: ApocalypseBatman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice or Captain America: Civil War debut better? What about Suicide Squad or Doctor Strange? Sound off with your thoughts below!

DEADPOOL Continues To Break Records As It Sails Past $300 Million Worldwide

Quote :
As expected, Deadpool shattered records in North America this weekend with an incredible haul of over $150 million for the four day weekend. That means the Merc with the Mouth has topped the previous record (held by Fifty Shades of Grey with $93 million last year) and now has one of the highest all-time debuts for a capeshit movie.

Among its other accolades are being the biggest R-Rated opener of all-time (easily beating $91.7 million taken by The Matrix Reloaded some time ago) and the highest debut ever for the month of February. With a budget of only $58 million, Deadpool is officially a hit.

It's overseas where things are getting interesting though. Deadpool is set to pass the $300 million mark today and it's thought that it will go as high as $475 million by the end of next weekend. That means this movie is on track to easily surpass Ant-Man, and we could be looking at it having a final cume as large as any of the much bigger Marvel Studios releases.

A sequel has already been semi-confirmed, but you can bet your life Fox are already talking about that long delayed X-Force movie now...

DEADPOOL Passes $235 Million In North America As It Takes Aim At $500 Million Worldwide

Quote :
After once again taking the #1 spot in North America this weekend with $55 million, Deadpool has now grossed upwards of $235 million domestically. That's obviously extremely impressive, but even more incredible is the fact that the R-Rated release is just a day or so away from hitting $500 million (it currently has a worldwide haul of $491.9 million).

Something which has to be helping Deadpool is the fact that it really isn't facing much in the way of competition right now, but make no mistake about it, that takes nothing away from this incredible record breaking haul.

It's already outpacing many of the Marvel Studios movies and there's no telling just how high it will go right now. Analysts haven't weighed in on any final numbers just yet, but it wouldn't be too surprising to see it go as high as movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and X-Men: Days of Future Past at this rate. How many times have you seen Deadpool?

DEADPOOL Continues To Exceed Expectations As It Passes $600 Million Worldwide

DEADPOOL Breaks Records As It Takes Aim At Massive $130 Million Weekend Cc011010

Quote :
After remaining at #1 this weekend in North America with an impressive $31.5 million, Deadpool continues to do well overseas with a current haul of $324.1 million. That gives the movie a current worldwide cume of $609.7 million, an incredible amount which means it has grossed more than the likes of Iron Man, Ant-Man, Thor, and X-Men: The Last Stand. It's also closing in on the likes of Iron Man 2 and Thor: The Dark World, so it's definitely a hit and easily one of the most profitable releases of 2016. How high will it go? That remains to be seen. Did you guys watch it again this weekend?

Quote :
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein, Gina Carano, and Brianna Hildebrand, Deadpool is currently playing in theaters. Stay tuned for more box office updates.
