Nah, but I think everyone expects MS and Sony to mention the something about their new home consoles @ E3 2012, with a Autumn 2013 release date.

I just don't see Sony being ready to announce a new console at E3 2012, but Microsoft I can definitely see them being ready for the next XBOX. Hopefully the 360 is still supported for a few more years.

They weren't making money off the PS3 console for a long time and I doubt that they are making much if any on the Vita with it's $250 price point. They also suffered substantial losses through the PSN outage and if they really did "rebuild" PSN as they claimed, that would have been a costly investment as well.

I don't see them spending substantial amounts on R&D, hiring the manpower to develop a PS4, producing enough units for launch and shipping it out to retailers before Microsoft can get their new console to retail. You also have to consider that Microsoft Games Studios have more revenue channels than Sony Computer Entertainment. XBOX 360 has been earning a profit for a longer period than PS3 and they also have XBOX Live Gold.

The PS3 was been sold at a loss as a tool to help Sony win the format war for Blu-Ray, job done. The PSP came out 2 years before the PS3 and it looks like the PS Vita is paving the same path for PS4 with time-lines. I don't see how PS Vita is an indicator as to why they won't make a PS4 based on the history?

Sony lost a months worth of PSN sales but it didn't affect the actual console sales enough that it didn't continue outsell it's 2 rivals over the same period.

Microsoft didn't have more revenue channels before the 360 came out so I don't see how it would make a difference even if the situations are revesersed for the next generation.

Funniest joke I've heard all year.

Ghost Sony is just cutting their losses and moving on. It would take another 5 years for Sony to make up all they money they lost off of the PS3. Their best hope to keep the brand alive is to make sure MS doesn't get the same lead that they did this generation and to make their next console affordable.

Next generation couldn't be anymore perfect for both Sony and MS. There are a ton of cost efficient GPUs and CPUs in this day and age that are very powerful.

I doubt I will buy a console next gen...

I wonder what the PS4 and Xbox 3's graphics are like.
And the reason why I say Xbox 3 is because the Xbox 720 would just look weird. It would be logical but I think the original purpose naming Xbox 360 was because.... I have no idea.

The only console Ill own next gen will be the wiiu. I can probably just upgrade my pc and still have it end up being cheaper than buying a whole new console.

They're going to be stronger in power, but I doubt we're going to see another graphical jump like from the 6th gen to the 7th gen.

We will. Next gen MS and Sony will make 1080p 60 FPS standard. This gen 720p 30 FPS is the standard. Not only that but you gotta consider the fact that with extra memory games will have much more detailed textures and polygon models.

Technology evolves exponentially, 1080/30FPS for the new consoles would be downright pathetic. The Wii U's tech would have been impressive in 2006 or 2007, but it's laughable weak for 2012. The new consoles will likely be the equivalent in power of high end PC's at the time that they come out. Tech has more to do than just graphic fidelity. There's scale of the levels, lighting, frame rate, particle effects, destructible environments, physics, number of AI on screen, etc. So even if a graphical jump won't be that noticeable, everything else will be.

EDIT: Also the average game this gen does not look very impressive, the average game next generation will likely look a lot better than Gears 3 or UC3 will.

I know next graphics will be better in the kind stuff you said, but I was talking of the possibility of a graphical leap of PIXAR like graphics in everything even gameplay. Also This gen doesn't look impressive anymore because we're already in the 5/6th years of this gen, but when you compare it to last gen it's very impressive =.
