Depends on how much you are willing to spend, but the i5 2500k is a must.

Go AMD mofo
Yeah sure if you want shitty drivers.
Also that first sentence of yours makes it sounds like AMD cards are the ones with higher failure rates.

Yeah this is why getting a gaming pc is so difficult for me, cos i ask you guys for advice and you end up arguing amongst yourselves what components are better...meanwhile im sat here struggling to understand the fucking jargon you are throwing out.
Herp get teh i700x 2.7 ghz xtreem AMD dildo edition
Derp get teh nvidia 94582845 with uber 1.2 ram or wait for teh 4599 but get teh proper powa supplai

ok this is what I recommend you should get
Intel i5 2500k 3.3Ghz - Scan.co.uk £130 Asus P8Z68-V LX - Amazon £86 Corsair Vengeance Memory - £40 (8gigs) OCZ 500W ModXStream Pro Power Supply - Amazon £50
The case like I said is your choice there are so many & the GPU is also your choice but like I said the GTX 560 or 570 is what you should be looking at... if you want cheaper the next best thing would be either a Radeon 5770 or GTX 550 perhaps.

I suggest buying a cheaper slower pc and putting a decent graphics card in it. Most "common" pcs out on the market are running core i3 or i5 but not overclockable. And since im probably right in guessing that you lack any of the other parts, like a case or any of that.
Get a decent mid-range PC. Then get a mid-high end graphics card. preferably with reference design since big manufactory cases tend to have shitty airflow.
Mid to high range of graphics cards would run BF3 or other games on a steady 35-55FPS for around 150€ for a graphics card.
You could get a decent laptop for that price. Just make sure that it has a real graphics chip in it. Either by asking store clerks or checking online.

those Ivy Bridge chips aren't worth the extra money he's isnt going to be using that 10% extra performance & with low volts you still get a high temps :lol!: fail
also that GPU is shit 6870 is oldddd although it will be enough for battlefield 3 but at a decent gaming res like 1920x1080 will will only get like 40fps on high lol
dont listen to jack he has a 6670 LOL

First Mike... You had a 5770 first so stfu. I have a 6790.. I get around 40-50 FPS on High Settings.
Second the 6870 is a perfect mid-high end card for new pc gamers. unlike the 5770 which is old...

If he only plays Batman and Battlefield, that would good choice. However AMD tends to be cheaper for the same performance in most games.

In order to build and maintain a gaming PC you need some PC knowledge.
