Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Box-Office Thread Batman10

Quote :
The numbers are in and as you would expect, Warner Bros.' Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is off to a roaring start. The film opened to a monumental $27.7 million last night, setting the record for highest Thursday preview night opening for an Easter weekend and shattering the record previously held by Universal's Furious 7. Overall, it's the seventh highest preview night opening in history, barely edging out the $27.6 million preview night for Marvel's Avengers Age Of Ultron, but falling short of The Dark Knight Rises' $30.6 million midnight launch in 2012 and far behind the $57 million & $43.5 million Thursday nights for Star Wars: The Force Awakens & Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, respectively.

Internationally, the film has earned an additional $33.1 million from 38 markets, bringing its global sum to over $44 million.

The Zack Snyder-directed feature, which has earned an abundance of vitriol from critics, is now on pace for a $150-175 million domestic opening over the holiday weekend and over $300 million worldwide. It's unclear how much the critical disdain will affect the opening weekend numbers, but with fans responding fairly positively to the film, for right now, things are looking good for the DC Extended Universe launching pad and if the film continues on its current track, it should at least match, if not surpass, the $152.5 March domestic opening record held by Lionsgate's The Hunger Games

So, what did you guys think? And what'd you think of the film? Is it a one-time watch or will you be seeing it multiple times in the coming days? Sound off with your thoughts below!

BATMAN v SUPERMAN Starts Big In China As North American Weekend Estimate Continues To Rise

Quote :
Deadline reveals that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is taking off in a big way in China. Dominating 75% of the market there, it's already earned $21.2 million, and when you take into account what the movie has so far made in countries like Mexico, Russia, and Germany, that now gives it a current international haul of $65 million. It's also worth noting that it launched at #1 in every single country it opened in yesterday. Now, early estimates in North America have risen from $150 million to the $165 million - $180 million range. It's thought that the Zack Snyder helmed release could sail past $80 million today, and it looks to continue breaking records, with the highest March opening of all-time pretty much a guarantee at this point. Moviegoers clearly don't care about reviews then, but it will be interesting to see how it fares over the next few weekend depending on which way word of mouth swings. Either way, the next couple of days are going to be very interesting for Batman v Superman...

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Soars To $82 Million Opening Day; Projected For $172 Million Weekend

Quote :
Despite being torn apart critically and being as divisive as ever with fans, only managing a "B" Cinemascore, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is a major winner at the box office with a massive $82 million opening day, $27.7 coming from Thursday night showings, and is currently on pace for a record breaking Easter weekend. Analysts have been constantly updating their projections and now expect the Zack Snyder-directed film to gross somewhere between $168-172 million domestic for the weekend, possibly more, which would easily set the record for biggest Easter opening ever, topping Universal's Furious 7, and biggest March opening ever, topping Lionsgate's The Hunger Games.

In the grand scheme of things, a $172 million opening weekend would be the sixth biggest opening weekend in history, just short of Marvel's Iron Man 3's opening of $174 million, but far behind the $200 million plus openings of juggernauts such as Disney's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Universal's Jurassic World, and Marvel's The Avengers.

Even with the gargantuan weekend, it'll be quite a while before the film can be considered a financial success as with a budget of at least $250 million, maybe $300-350 million, without marketing, which has been rumored to be upwards of $100-150 million, it'll likely need to recoup at least $700-900 million, if not a lot more, just to break-even. The international box office will help in this regard, but it's still an uphill battle.

UPDATE: The international numbers are in and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice earned another $67.2 million globally on Friday, bringing its international sum to over $115.3 million. Its current worldwide total stands just short of $200 million. Also, Deadline adds that with an estimated $400 production and P&A cost, the film will likely need to reach $385 million domestic, and roughly $900 million worldwide to break-even.

It'll be interesting to see if the movie has legs in the coming weeks, but for this weekend at least, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice reigns supreme. So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

BATMAN v SUPERMAN Shatters Records As It Tops THE DARK KNIGHT RISES' Opening Weekend

Quote :
The critics may have enjoyed savaging Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but that hasn't had too much of an impact on its opening weekend in North America! Variety reveals that its debuted with a massive $170.1 million, giving it the best March opening of all-time and the sixth biggest domestic opening weekend in history. Moviegoers have been much kinder to the movie than critics anyway, because as well as shelling out their hard earned cash to see it, they've given it a B CinemaScore grade.

Perhaps most impressive is the fact that Batman v Superman has beaten Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, a franchise Warner Bros. relied on for years rather than adapting their DC Comics properties. It's also beaten The Dark Knight Rises' opening, making Dawn of Justice the biggest Batman opener ever. We'll have updated international numbers for you later, but it has been revealed today that the Zack Snyder helmed release has already earned $43 million in China in just two days. Like it or not, the DC Films Universe is here to stay. How many times have you seen Batman v Superman?

BATMAN v SUPERMAN Passes $400 Million Worldwide For The Biggest capeshit Opening EVER

Quote :
We've already updated you on how Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice performed in North America this weeked, but the movie has had an even bigger couple of days overseas. While initial estimates pointed to a $350 million haul, it's massively exceeded expectations with a whopping $424.1 million worldwide after raking in $254 million internationally. Warner Bros. spent a lot on this release between the $250 million budget and some big marketing costs, so this is a fantastic start as it takes aim at that all important $1 billion mark. Like the record breaking Jurassic World last year, Batman v Superman benefitted from a day and date release in China, but these numbers still mean that it had the biggest opening weekend of all-time worldwide for a capeshit movie (in North America, it came in fourth behind The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Iron Man 3). It should pass $500 million in a matter of days, and with no serious competition in theaters right now, that number should keep on rising.

Well, those poor critical reviews and mixed word of mouth for Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice are finally making a dent in the pic’s second weekend, with a revised FSS take tonight of $51M-$56M. At the low end, that’s a 69% drop. One industry estimate even has the DC capeshit mashup at –oy– a 71% drop with $48M. All of this despite the fact that BvS has the weekend all to itself, without any new wide threats from the other major studios, plus the added benefit of 30% K-12 schools off, plus 9% colleges on break per ComScore.

Seems like Civil War is more likely to beat BvS than ever before.

They probably care NOW, but I doubt they did during the opening weekend.

BATMAN v SUPERMAN Expected To Be Less Profitable Than MAN OF STEEL; $1 Billion Haul Now Unlikely

Quote :
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice looks set to take the #1 spot at the box office again this wekend, but Bloomberg reports that the movie looks set to ultimately make Warner Bros. less money than Man of Steel did (that's once costs and revenue from ancillaries are factored in). One of the most expensive movies ever made, Batman v Superman looks set to make Warner Bros. a $278 million profit once they take account of everything from home video sales to TV and merchandise. That's less than Man of Steel's projected $300 million, and to be as successful as Marvel's movies - which tend to generate a profit of roughly 44% - Batman v Superman would need to gross $1.15 billion. That just goes to show that the movie is far from a flop, though analysts believe the studio are probably still disappointed.

"I’m sure that it’s a bit of a disappointment," says SNL Kagan analyst Wade Holden. "They were probably hoping for box-office numbers similar to ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ since ‘Batman v Superman’ had DC’s three most well-known comic book heroes together in the same movie” -- Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman." Matthew Harrigan, an analyst at Wunderlich Securities who recommends Time Warner stock, added: "They have to be pretty satisfied; they probably aren’t elated." To make matters worse, it sounds like Batman v Superman will definitely fall short of $1 billion worldwide. It's so far made $720.8 million in total, and that includes China. What do you think?
