Quick question to all rap fans here

Do any of you play an instrument?

i play drums a little bit and i got friends that can play the guitar. although i don't really listen to rap since it got stale, it's all about hookers and bitches along with other dumb shit. the only rapper i listen to is eminem.

I don't, what of it?

I used to play guitar and casually play my big drum set.

I've established so far that aside from the odd percussionist, no one here is a keen musician.

Just an observation. I thought just as much...

It just means it's an inferior genre because Rappers don't actually make music.

Pop music is not made for people who have a love of music. Or have a knowledge of musicality. Pop music is meant to get people to dance and sing along.

The reason people have a problem with rap as opposed to the rest of pop music is that there's no melodies or harmonies going on. Rap is about the spoken word and just like all other forms of music you have to listen to the underground songs to find the true form of the music.



1st vid is hip hop at it's rawest, a beat with a man preaching some powerful words- Brilliant

2nd vid shows a soft melody element, in hip hop, not seen too often- Brilliant

3rd vid is a great musical progression combined with powerful lyrics- Brilliant

Rap has some great music you just have to look harder to find it, because it's not the norm to focus on the music for rap...

Okay that third one was real good, but they're a rock group.

the 3rd one was actually alright.
The other two were meh. The first was plain and generic. The second was horribly repetitive, and the backing is so simple and disjointed, the looping sounded meh, it was as if they couldn't think of what else to play so they just started it over. lol

Meh.

How is it not a good form of music? Granted, the music portion of it is simple, but as long as it sounds good, then I can call it good music.
