No. Not at all.
I somewhat agree with Ebert in the sense that Video games are not art. However, they can become, but they're far away, nonetheless.

Yes. Video Games are definitely art. Are they high art though? No. The medium is still young and it has a long way to go. But they will get there. ...I hope.

There's nothing art about video games. They're entertainment.

@Chobo
Technically, yeah.
But I'd love for someone to claim The Seventh Seal, or Eight and a Half to be entertainment.
That said, yes, anyone can say movies aren't art - Which is fine, of course. But I don't think anyone who's seen those type of films can claim for Cinema to be just "entertainment, nonetheless.

"But I'd love for someone to claim The Seventh Seal, or Eight and a Half to be entertainment."
Just insert Flower, Braid, and Uncharted instead.
and continue....

Did you seriously just compare The Seventh Seal to Uncharted, you goof?
I'd like to know in which way Uncharted is art?
Or even Braid, for that matter

Video Games ARE art. Plain and simple.
Anybody who says otherwise is either in denial, or just lying to themselves. There are plenty of games out there that contain some examples of art. (Braid, Heavy Rain, Flower, Mass Effect, Journey, Uncharted, various indie titles, etc.)
BTW, the video game is actually bigger than the movie industry. (Just putting that out there.)

I literally just took the stuff you listed in your first comment. They weren't my choice.

Fair enough then.
Like I said, though: You can find video games to be art, and you can find Cinema to not be; You can't, however, call Uncharted art as it has zero relevance to that craft.
Only people who don't know what art is, would call Uncharted for "art".

Why do you think Uncharted isn't an art? Just wondering.
Also, why would 8½ not be entertainment? Isn't the whole point of entertainment to interest the person? For a movie that is the most uninspiring or uninteresting, I'm surprised of the amount of praise it has received.

Orc's right.
They're are some shitty games like Minecraft, GTA, CoD, et cetera that are pointless and could hardly be considered art, but most games are an interactive audio-visual expression of a story or vision. That's art.

Roger Ebert always called Cinema a work of art and disclaimed Gaming.
I'm pretty sure Roger Ebert wins over Brando.
