Square-Enix: Tomb Raider is a flop

Jesus Christ 3 million a flop? I'm starting to feel anxious about the state of AAA video games.

It's because of the rising game development cost

3 million is not a flop! Unless the game had a budget of $100 million then, yeah, maybe, but it's a repetitive, linear, set piece filled game that basically plays for you. I'd be surprised if it had a $25 million budget (Uncharted 2).

3million buying a game for 40 quid... that's like 120 million quid, and it has only been out one month..... think of the many people waiting for it to go down in price.

They also called Sleeping dogs and Hitman flops because they missed their insane expectations of about 5 Million units. Why does every game out there need to sell 5 million in under a month to be considered a hit. You made a profit, that's not a flop.

Square Enix is on crack. Those games were not flops. They sold pretty well and all had decent to high overall review scores. Hell, I loved Hitman Absolution. 3 Million units sold is still a good number.

I think it would be more like half of that because they sell them to stores who mark up the price on the game. Then there's taxes. Still doesn't sound like a flop to me though.

I keep hearing this but MS has never been concerned about Uncharted. Forza came into the picture to compete with Gran Turismo but that was because GT games were (are) selling 10-15 million copies per title.

Also, I was always under the impression that Uncharted was competing with Gears of War.

It does seem that way. Probably because most people stop giving a shit about Gears of Wars after the 3rd game or the massive ND circle jerk going on right now.
