When the Vita launched, Sony kind of, uh, slipped up on a few minor promises and reasonable expectations. You know, PS1 support, full backwards compatibility with the PSP, and so on. While the majority of gamers didn’t really mind and continued to play the robust launch lineup, a few realized something was a bit off.
What a lot of people realized was that content they’d already paid for and was apparently confirmed to work on the Vita actually didn’t. Those people? Playstation Plus subscribers, of course! Who better to snub than the gallantly loyal fan who made a faith-filled purchase of your brand-new system and also already had a PS3 with its extensive PS+ catalog of supposedly compatible Minis and PS1 titles? That’s right; when users tried to transfer their Minis over to the new system, it effectively told them to go fuck themselves in their fanboy behinds.
Well, you can rejoice, relax, PS+ users. It seems that Sony has sneakily slipped in the ability to access any previously blocked content on your Vita. Before, viewing a Mini acquired through PS+ showed the common “cannot be downloaded to a Vita system” error, but now, the compatible titles work! Sure, there aren’t that many compatible ones, and even fewer worthwhile ones, but I’m happy to get Where is My Heart up and running on my Vita.
Of course, the more prevalent news here is in regards to Playstation One classics, which many feared wouldn’t be accessible if gained through PS+. While not exactly confirmed, it seems that whenever Sony feels like rolling out the Vita update that enables the play of some PS1 games, you’ll not have to worry about your “free” copies not working. Let’s just Sony doesn’t pull another famous switcheroo on us and make us re-purchase PS1 titles on Vita. Sure, they promised they’d work, but they’ve promised a lot of things for the fledgling handle!
