| Japanese gaming irrelevant? That is the question.
Japanese gaming has be decaying since the start of this current generation of consoles. Was it a bad move for Sqaure Enix to release The Last Remnant (Also on PC), Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean the Last Hope (Also on ps3 at a later date) only Xbox 360 and not on the ps3? Final Fantasy XIII a bad game because of the Xbox 360? Capcom handing their IPs to western developers? Xenoblade is really the best JRPG this gen? PlatinumGames the last ray of hope for Japanese gaming? These are some of the examples.
What you guys think? | |

| Mario and Nintendo seems to be doing just fine. A lot of western games don't do so good either. | |

1. Nintendo always does good in any market. They're fucking Nintendo for christ's sakes. Their first party games sell like hot cakes. 2. You can thank Call of Duty for that. There have been so many cod-clones this gen trying to steal the attention away, especially FPS's. People who buy the new shooters rivalling cod don't always stay with that game. Many gamers just go back to playing cod.

| It is slowly dying. Only super mainstream games like mario and zelda still sell. But otherwise alot of japanese games just sell lackluster.
I mean hell just look at western games like skyrim, battlefield, call of duty, halo, GTA. Hell even CoD clones like homefront and just recently new IP's like dead island sell nice. You can't compare that to the average Atlus or Square Enix game |

| I can't say that it's irrelevant, but it's definetely Dying, Japanese Devs just constantly try to make their games more "appealing to the West" and that's what's killing it. | |

I wouldn't say Mario is a Japanese game. But it is... I mean when Padders is talking about Japanese games, I'm assuming he's saying it's Japanese oriented. Mario is far from Japanese oriented. That makes it more appealing to the Western audience.

That makes it more appealing to the Western audience. I guess? Still, whether it's Japanese oriented ot not, it still counts. There is nothing wrong with making a more Western oriented game. The real problem here is Japan is trying too hard to copy the success of Western games today. Where as Mario and other Nintendo games are their own thing.

| You can include Nintendo if you want.
The problem I see with Nintendo that they don't make any new IPs which has that Nintendo feel to them. This gen Sony came up with Uncharted, Resistance and Xbox started Gears of War.
When it comes to Japanese developers that tried to westernize their games which most of them either failed or average at best. Lost Planet was quite good but when Lost Planet 2 came out it was nothing but garbage. They focus on co-op, stupid A.I and didn't fix any of the problems that was in the first game. Now some of them think that handing over their titles to western developers gonna appeal to the western audience.
SEGA really put on the derp hat when they made Valkyria Chronicles 2 a psp title. http://www.vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=Valkyria%20Chronicles See what happen? VC3 ain't even coming to the US and PAL areas.

| That sucks! Valkyria Chronicles is one of the most underrated games this gen. Now we won't be able to get the 3rd game (which looks very good) and the anime adaptation outside of Japan. | |
