| If Kessler wanted to stop The Beast, why didn't he just go back in time to stop himself from building the Ray Sphere? If he had never built the Ray Sphere, then John would never have been sucked into it and therefore would never have become The Beast. | |

| Either Kessler didn't know, or he wanted his younger self to kill the Beast.

Remember, Messing with the timeline can cause a Time Paradox. But you're getting a time paradox either way. If Kessler goes back in time to stop himself from building the Ray Sphere, then he would have no purpose in going back because the Ray Sphere would've never been built. If Kessler goes back in time to help Cole destroy The Beast, then he has no purpose going back because The Beast is already destroyed. Kessler's voyage back in time to stop The Beast is actually what created The Beast. | |

| This only means that Kessler caused a Paradox from the moment he went back to the past and started working on the Ray sphere.
The question is How did Kessler got his own powers, I doubt that he had a Ray Sphere that is unless he got caught up on one of the Beast's ray field blasts which turned him into a conduit.
I think that in Kessler's timeline they made the Ray Sphere without his involvement and an "unexpected accident" happened and created the Beast. | |

| Kessler got his powers the way Cole did: the Ray Sphere. Kessler then went back in time and worked on that same Ray Sphere to make sure it would go into Cole's hands.
