I hope Mad Max gets some nominations for Director. That, and if Danish Girl wins something, I'd burn the Academy to the ground.

Who wins for best picture seems less obvious this year.

It's between Spotlight, Revenant and Big Short.

Yeah, I was thinking about Spotlight as well. But I don't know? It doesn't seem to have that same buzz that 12 Years of Slave or Birdman got. Also what about The Danish Girl?

12 years a Slave was about American slavery. Birdman was an extremely mainstream film.

Spotlight is one of the most critically acclaimed and highly awarded films all year. It isn't really meant to fit into mainstream attention, as it's about Journalism, which isn't really something with mainstream appeal.

If The Danish Girl gets nominated for Best Picture, well, that'll be fucking hilarious considering how much hate reviewers have given it. Would be funny if it was, though.

The top critics gave it a 6.9 collective rating, with all of them agreeing that film suffers from playing it safe, using too many clichés, not representing the difficulties correctly, and some of them even hated on the films' bland directing.

I wouldn't put it past the Academy to nominate it (they'll give an Oscar to any such subject, lol), but I'm sure it'll cause a lot of hate from most people.

Well, it can, but I doubt it'll actaully win. I expect a nomination, but no way it wins when it's up against Spotlight and The Revenant. I don't see that happening.

I could be wrong, though, so you never know, really.

But Creed has better reviews than The Revenant does though.

Well, yeah, but the Academy awards follow reviews less and the major awards shows more, which means that you can pretty much predict the likelyhood of the Oscars based on other major awards shows like Globes, BAFTAs, etc.

In fact, the BAFTAs have predicted the Oscar winners 5 times in a row or something.

The only real contender that Creed can win would be for Stallone. I'm sure it'll get nominated for else, but I doubt it'll win Best Picture or Director considering the competition.

I hope Sly wins for best supporting actor. It will make Creed a lot more unique if it does. Considering the fact that no one even asked for another movie from the Rocky universe, then all of a sudden we hear Oscar buzz for it.

You don't follow the awards circuit at all, do you, lol? Mad Max has been scooping up those nominations for a while. It won't win, though.

Just because it's an action movie? Bull! If The Silence of the Lambs can win for best picture, then so can Mad Max: Fury Road. Sad

When did I mention "action movie" in my comment? Mad Max has zero chance due to the competition this year.

Unless you can argue for 5 reasons why it does, then you can take your bull and Hannibal and cancel them both right away.

The only reason I mentioned The Silence of the Lambs, is because it's a feminist film just like Mad Max: Fury Road. And people are suckers for that, especially in the SJW era we live in now. Also there is nothing quite like Mad Max: Fury Road. The film made more of an impact than any of the films on that list, so why does something like Spotlight deserve to win more? Because it's based on a true story? That reason alone is not good enough. But what do I know? I haven't seen Spotlight yet, so for all I know it could be the greatest film of all time. All I know is, Mad Max: Fury Road shouldn't be seen any less of a film than the other films of the list. George Miller probably worked his ass off to death than any other director that got nominated.
