I won't argue with it being basic and sometimes simplistic, but that doesn't automatically make it bad. It's still a great genre that focuses more on clever lyrics. For example, Eminem may be childish and distasteful, but his early work is clever and humorous.

Bro,
Emotionless song was emotionless due to it's REPETITIVE, grinding nature. It's basic piano part, you probably think it's emotional because it's got piano (or coz he jumpz off teh buildin) lol. Looks like you have never listened to Chopin. Listen to his Opus 55 in Fminor. And as we are talking about rap vs metal, listen to Silhouette by Opeth. By the way the piano part was simple fifth chords and such divided up. xD I've seen children do that. I don't get emotional from hearing someone play grade 1 piano.
Repetitive song was same from 0:00-1:50 lol they just layered a few sound effects on top. Fail right there. But can't blame the guy, every rap "artist" gets away with it so why can't he? As long as people with shallow music taste keep supporting them they have no initiative to ever get decent.
Distasteful song was distasteful: "robbin some folks n makin da dash" "punched him in da belly n gave him a slap". Alongside that it sounded like nearly every other rap song.
Generic... not available in my country. But the above songs were all pretty generic.

No one here is trying to say that hip-hop beats out metal, Lykos. We're just trying to prove that it's a legitimate and a good genre.
So because it's repetitive, it's emotionless? I don't follow the logic, then again, the logic is flawed.
Generic is a lousy term to use because it's all based on opinion. Personally I think your precious In Flames sounds generic as hell and is just plain boring to listen to.

Lyrics =\= music. I thought this was a music discussion, not an english discussion. And anyone can talk about shit they've gone through, it doesn't make it more emotional music-wise.

^^ SOZ. Don't hate on the fucking beat or shit. That's not what rap is about. You have to judge it based on what it's about. If you don't, it's like hating Gran Turismo for not having enough RPG elements.

Hmm? Music and Vocals aren't important in Rap? lolololololol self ownage right there.
Rap sucks as a genre because the music is no good. You could listen to Metal, electric, techno, rock, jazz, pretty much every other genre and even without any singing it's still good. Rap can't and the only redeeming factor is pretty bad. With many rap songs you flat out can't understand the lyrics or it's just about drugs and fucking hoes while they're dropping niggah every 10 seconds for good measure. I admit some rap songs are pretty good, but "some" does not redeem the whole genre when the remaining 90% is trash.

I prefer the modern metal that they have in games. Since the decline of Metal being mainstream there have been less and less good bands. Video game OST have really good metal though.

Yeah that's exactly the thing, even if the lyrics are good it means nothing if his voice sounds like shit. Take Tone Loc for example, the lyrics were awful but he had a really good singing voice so even then his music was good. The beat didn't repeat itself over and over so that helped too.

Metal isn't just black and white bro.
I listen to what appeals to me. What I look for is at least several of these combined:
Power, Emotion, Technicality, Originality, Progression, Beauty, Good Vibes/Atmosphere, Passion and good melodies.
EDIT: I don't like most old metal. It was just a slight evolution of rock, also not a very impressive genre. I primarily like scandanavian metal of the 90's which was the true evolution of metal. I am talking about melodic death metal. With influences from classical it brought about a whole new wave of sophisticated music.
I treat music as a primary source of entertainment. I want to be impressed. I want to be blown away. I want the musicians to write something unlike music I've never heard before.
Now let's analyse rap
BEATS Funny because metal has some of the greatest drummers ever I'm not a Gojira fan but wow. Also why is it all rap stays in a simple timing like 4/4 all the way through the song? Progressive bands have constant timing shifts.
VOCALS Rap relies solely on it so how come the vocalists are generally weak and talentless? I mean, Mike Patton from Faith No More could rap and do it well but only did it a bit So can red hot chillis But more importantly, metal singers have insane vocal ranges. like Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge with 4 octaves vocal range.
LYRICS haha this makes me lol. Most rap fan's view of good lyrics is the typical gangsta slang and very face-value-is-right simplistic. I may be wrong, there may be a few rappers out there with decent lyrics but so far none I've seen have been even slightly decent. Then there's insomnium who have the most vivid, heartfelt lyrics
Quote :
Trail amidst the snow-clad trees, winding is the way Sunless is the path we roam, bitter is the air we breathe Fell is the icy blast, coming from the hills Blowing through my ailing heart, wailing in the emptiness inside
Vanished is the light we had, hidden deep in rimy soil Bereft of us the one we cherished, lost for ever our love
Still at night I see her figure Flickering on moonlit glades But passing is the hope she_s giving Just a faintest breath of air and she_s gone again
The clouds are moving heavily, across the livid sky Yonder the hues are darkening, slowly turning grey to black For the two who stray in dusk, all hope is long since gone Cruel is the winter_s reign, merciless the grasp of despair
For what mirth there is left in life for a motherless son What solace in this world for a widower to find
Slender the shape in night, unbearable the beauty Shining in the silvery light, watching me with wistful eyes Evanescent this vision, unattainable this illusion But an image in my troubled dreams, hewn out of yearning and rue
and what's amazing is english isn't their first language LMAO they do lyrics better than American songwriters hahaha

I thought your point was that rap artists can be good but all he did was cover that song and add in a few extra parts. See, eminem is pretty much musically devoid of talent. Sorry to say it but it is true. He is a good rapper but rap is the weakest form of musical expression.
And if you're going to cover a song, at least do a decent one... like Vivaldi's Four Seasons (this is Summer in the video. beautiful..)
